I am using windows XP and I'm using AVG 8.0.

AVG says connection failed when I try to update through a proxy.

I have entered the proxy address and port number in the update advanced settings but it doesn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated

From the Grisoft.com FAQ's click here.

If you are using proxy server for connection into the Internet, you need to modify configuration of AVG update process this way:

Launch AVG User Interface -> from top menu "Tools" select "Advanced settings" option -> in the left navigation tree select "Update" -> "Proxy"
From the combo box menu located on the right hand side of this dialog select whether you want to:
Use proxy
Try connection using proxy and if it fails, connect directly.

Manual and Automatic configuration procedures are explained at the above link, as well.

Hey thanks for your help,

I have tried fiddling with the options in the advanced options menu and I have looked at the AVG site but still can't establish a connection.

I have tried using the 'connect directly' option and also 'manually' and 'automatically' connecting through a proxy and none work.

I currently update manually by downloading updates from the site but this is a bit irritating.
