Being Redirected On Google/yahoo Virus/Malware/Spyware/Adware???

This is the first time, and hopefully the last, that I've submitted an item.
I hope I've given all the necessary information.

When I go to Google or Yahoo, type in my search criteria, the engine will pull that up fine. It's when I go to click on the search results to view the topic such as CNN, I'm redirected to another website such as: <http://www.couponmountain.com/search.php?searchText=cnn>, <http://vedic.by-choice.com/yagna/>, <http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/>, </http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/cnn>, and other ones as well. I've downloaded and updated the latest version of Adaware2007, and it says I'm clean, as does Norton. I just know that something is in the registry that has attached itself to those sites that is doing this, but I cannot find anything.
Any suggestions???

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Tell Blade81, sorry for the confusion at Lavasoft. I'm new at this, and just wanted to get help any way possible. I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes.
I do want to say thanks to both of you for offering to help me out. Not only has the problem been fixed, my computer is running a little better. I'm consantly kicking myself these past few days for it getting infected.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from one of these places:

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

Please delete ComboFix and its accompanying folder C:\Qoobox. Empty your Recycle bin and reboot your computer. ComboFix is made for certain infections only, but has the ability to do a multitude of things when asked to. It is not a scanner like MBAM or your AntiVirus.

If there are no further problems:

Below I have included a number of recommendations on how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously! These few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

Regularly go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer. You should also turn on the Windows automatic update feature.

You should definitely maintain a firewall. Some good free firewalls are Kerio, or Outpost. I use Comodo on my own system and really like it. http://comodo.com

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

IE/Spyad:
It places over 5000 malicious websites and domains in your IE's restricted zone.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. A lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

Please make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

This thing is running a lot better. Not necessarily faster, but it changes screens and programs load like it did when it was new. Except for Word, Excel and programs like that, but they're big anyway.
Hopefully it'll stay like this. :blink:

I used to have Spybot on here, but the last time I tried to get it to update, there was a bad file or something??? I can't remember, it's been so long. I'll try to get it again, because I thought that was a good program. I'd run Spybot and Adaware to clean up most stuff, and if it kept coming up, I'd try to locate some information on the bug, then try to locate it in the registry. I know, I know. Don't go messing with the registry, but I didn't know how else to try to get rid of it. So far I've only had to do that twice. I count myself lucky. And once it was for an ad for AdVirGear, that turned out to be a bug. I had clicked on "OK" thinking it was going to get rid of the pop-up, but instead it downloaded all sorts of crap. I spent two days cleaning out stuff, and finally got rid of it.

Now is the Malwarebyte program something like Adaware and Spybot? Or do I need to delete that file as well?

Ok, I'll try that also, but the IBM programs are something that I need for work. Or are those just programs that run at start-up that bog the system down and really aren't needed?

Help, Help.
I don't know what the heck just happened.
I down loaded Spybot and it was in the process of running, and was just about through when the computer just shut down. Now I can;t get it to start back up.
I'm on the company's computer now.
It's 3:45 here in NC.
Any suggestions before I take a hammer to it?? :thumbsup:

OK, that's strange.
When it cut off, I waited about 10-15 seconds then tried to restart it. The fan came on and it sounded like the hard drive, but nothing started to boot up.
I then pressed and held in the on/off switch to do a soft shutoff and then cut off the switch inthe back. Waited, then tried to start it back up.
So far it's working.
I immediately ran a HiJack this log, and am now running Malwarebytes.
I deleted Combofix earlier this afternoon.
The spybot icon is showing in the system tray, but I'm not messing with that.
What's going on?
As soon as I get a log on the malwarebyte scan, I'll attach them on another posting.
I can't stand this lap-top keyboard. YUCK!!

Any suggestions??? :thumbsup:
