Question About Frostwire how can you tell if a file is infected

..especially MP3 files. I read somewhere that you should only download an MP3 if it's above 1000KB, but is that the only rule? I saw an MP3 of a very, very rare song which is around 3MB. Is there any(and I mean ANY) possibility of this being a virus/trojan/malware?

With MP3 files the chance of it being a virus or malware is very slim.

I use LimeWire which uses the same network as Frostwire (which is Gnutella) and on the Gnutella network there are things you should stay away from when downloading MP3's

Example: you search for a band (lets say.. Underoath) and you get this result "Underoath cute girl has orgasm on webcam" (don't laugh- its a piece of spam thats been floating around) its obviously a fake file.

Also theres a fake MP3 file going around thast around 3MBs. I can't remember any details though.

try and stay away from files under 1MB unless you KNOW they're legit. I have downloaded some songs that are under 1MB but I knew they were real :thumbsup:

Download the file to your Desktop. Right-click on it and choose to Scan with your anti-virus

if I download it and it's a virus, could it autorun? or can I still scan it?

you could switch to an antivirus that scan P2P, like Avast.

It is not likely to auto run, but (always a but) there are
malicious files that take advantage of a flaw in Windows where it can
do bad things simply by mousing over it.
Safest way... after downloading the file open your virus scanner and
scan the folder you downloaded to.
My way... when the download reaches about ten percent i hit the preview
button. If the file (mp3) doesn't start playing i cancel the download.
