i was wondering if anyone has done any research into web host speed?
i have entered the same flash web site on 3 different hosts, .swf file 1.83mb with fancy preloader for this test, plus a 42.3mb video (they wanted quality video) and i got 3 very different results,
http://www.hallcross.co.uk/Fleet/index3.html lycos, fastest
http://www.boylloyd.com/Fleet/index3.html daily.co.uk, slow
http://icanhasvodka.com/ hostmonster.com, slowest
to view the video > concept > video, even playback varies on the different hosts
of cause they all boast about high speed servers, but this is obviously not true, my question is, how can i find a hosts speed before i buy a permanent host for this site?
the host site the customer bought space on doesn't even support .swf files hysterical.gif 123-reg.co.uk useless
anyone else done any research? could anyone point me at a high speed reasonably priced host?

They have test downloads on that page.
Plans start at $5.00 per month.

My site is hosted there. Here is a .swf example:

thanks raw, but i found this site http://www.hostingspeeds.com/index.php?act...ort=&page=1
takes some of the guessing out of it, problem is, rank # 2 last week is #31 this week ??? out of the thousands of hosts out there #31 is still prety impresive,
rank # 1 last week is still #1 must be a good one, i had to take 2 of the links down from my earlier post, the customer dont want anyone finding the site untill it's finished.
i cant find any of my hosts on that site, must be slow smile.gif
