New to the forum, any help would be gladly accepted. I cannot get Taskmgr to run, it opens for a second (in dos mode) then shuts down. If I try to open it in dos I get a message stating "Program to big to fit in memory" ? I have tried running Adware, Malware, Spyware, programs in addition to windows defender and mcafee virus scan. Adware, malware, and spyware have removed some items that were infected. No viruses are detected when running the antivirus programs (all programs were updated prior to running). When this problem began I tried to use System Restore as I have done numerous times in the past but it could not complete the resore. Also, my original user profile would not open, error message stated file in the registry not correct. I cleaned the system removing most of the items in the temp, temp int, for all users. Same problem exist. Ran hijack this, here is the log. Thanks. Task manager will not open. It is not disabled. It will start to open then shutdown. If I try to open it directly from the DOS prompt it states "program to big for memory". In addition if I try to print anything I get an error message which states "internet explorer has detected a problem etc." when I hit the send or do not sent I receive the following pop up screen. Dr Watson's post mortum debugger has found an error, no matter what I select on that screen the same message reappears and the only way to get out of that screen is to physically shut off the computer by depowering it. Thanks

I really don't see any malware in your logs
You have some file association issues but running the following tool will fix that. Not really sure as to why Internet Explorer is doing that strange about the Task Manager too. Have you made any changes recently any updates drivers ? etc.. ============================== Please download DAFT and save it to your desktop:

Ran DAFT and fixed the file associations, there were 2. I have not installed or updated any drivers. When I first encountered this problem I tried to do a system restore but was unable each time after the restore was nearly complete I would get the Dr. Watson message, the same one I recieve when I try to print. The one puzzling question is what would cause the message "program to big to fit into memory" to be shown when trying to run task manager from the DOS prompt? Still have the same problems. Thanks

Go ahead and delete C:\Deckard and the Icons I had you use from off of your desktop.
Empty your recycle bin. Because I do not see any malware I do not think this is a malware issue I suggest starting a thread in the Xp Forum where they will be able to assist you. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum56.html < there is the link if you do not have anymore questions then I will close this thread. -------------------- |

When running one of the diagnostic programs for malware one of the programs it said to delete was "Internet Explorer Default Page". This appears as a program in the add/remove program list and is supposed to be a type of malware. The problem is, it will not allow me to remove that program, ie. there is no remove prompt. If this is a type of malware why does it not show up in the log? Thanks for the help.

Ok I will need you to create an uninstall list using Hijackthis.
To do this: Open HijackThis *click Config *click Misc Tools *Click "Open Uninstall Manager" *Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt) *Click Save copy and paste the results in your next post -------------------- |
