Hello,

looking at a Vostro 1400 or 1500 and want nothing to do with media direct. Is there a way to completely remove it and not have it corrupt my MBR when I push the button? maybe have it act as a second power button?

Is it listed in Add/Remove Programs? Can you uninstall it?

Well... its not just a program... its on separate partition as an alternative OS for quick booting.. Think Media Center as the whole OS...

I'm probably a bit late here, but if you haven't got your Vostro yet (or have, but haven't got round to removing Media Direct) be very careful... Fully test your preferred alternative multimedia application first!

I've got a 2 week old Vostro 1500 here that basically won't play audio without skipping/distortion unless I'm using Media Direct. Real Player is the worst, but playback under Media Player is also pretty bad - and yet the same audio files play perfectly using Dell's Media Direct.

See my thread on the Dell Community Forums here for more info: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums...thread.id=42558
