Hmmm, good point. I think stopping the marketing will force everyone to buy Vista instead of XP. Although there's still support and updates, people would start feelings like XP is obsolete. Between updating an old computer and buying a new one, most people would prefer the latter. But that's my own opinion of course.
My XP is 4 years old and in desperate need of reinstallation, so I might need to buy a new one before Vista takes over *_*

You could just buy the XP update skyfuser :flowers:

Well it is good to knwo that we can still receive support and updates until 2009 by then I am sure Vista will have less bugs than now, but on the other hand will probably still be buggy

Not sure I understand what you mean by buying an XP Update :flowers:

By then I am also willing to bet that another new fresh operating system that's a "work in progress" is also out. If not, I'll eat my computer

If you go into the computer stores where they have the OS boxes, you should see the Windows Xp area of boxes. You will notice there is cheaper one which should say update  This only works for machines running Windows 2000, Xp or Vista :flowers: This is the same with Vista.

PS: I didn't mean to go slightly off topic :trumpet:

Ohh... I might want to go to Fry's and check that out, thanks :flowers: But still confused  Exactly what does it update?

It is like a clean install if you are using XP and if you are using Windows 2000, it is like installing Xp from 2000 except it is cheaper because you have already purchased an OS from Microsoft so they sort of give you a discount in a way

you can slipstream the service packs into the cab files and be good as new, no reason to buy the OS twice for the same machine, I am sure microsoft wouldn't mind tho

I'm not all that farmiliar using Linux and I find it complicated

Did you know that Mac OS X and Linux are very closely related? It's true! They're both based on Unix. So, if you're familiar with Mac OS X, then Linux isn't that huge of a leap.

Wow, maybe I might give linux a go after all  Thanks Andrew :flowers:

Microsoft are just bullying people into vista. It won't happen, well as long as there are other OS's like Mac and Linux, Microsoft will realise how screwed they are.

Trust me; the world wasn't ready for vista or should i say; vista wasn't ready for the world.

And now to throw this into the mix:

Ballmer: Microsoft 'Will Be Sensitive' To XP Users

We'll just have to wait and see how "sensitive" they are.

September, 2007 Windows XP SP2c will be available to system builders from their distributors.

January 31, 2008 End-of-Life for product availability of Windows XP for all channels except System Builder.

January 31, 2009 End-of-Life for product availability of Windows XP for the System Builder channel.

I will bet they will change their mind again and back down
