BleepingComputer.com: Wow 2.4.1 Freeze Ups

Hey guys,

I have been having a certain issue with World of Warcraft since the new 2.4.1 patch.

Please note that I have run about 5-6 anti-(insert appropriate word here) programs and my PC is clean from any trojans, malware, spyware, viruses, parasites etc etc.

If there is anybody that has any advice on what to do (apart from what has already been done in my above post) then I will be greatly thankful to one and all.

Are you having any problems with non-online games?
Since you have updated your drivers, re-installed the game and patches, and scanned for malware, it may be a ISP/connexion problem. Not having problems elsewhere might point in that direction. I presume, also, that you have run checkdisk and defragged since re-installing the game.
It's a shame you got to level 70 and are having problems.

My ISP is fine, I play other games and use the internet a lot and everything else works perfectly, I also defrag quite often and do disk checks and cleanups as well to keep my PC in an efficient state.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

what other games? WOW is fairly gpu friendly but you are using a pci-E card?

I play games like Warcraft 3, Diablo 2 and Warhammer 40k DoW all online as well and they are fine. I will do that pitstop later on when I'm at home, evening shifts for the loss.

looks like it's your computer, all those other games are probably even more gpu friendly

they've changed their security settings in the last month or so so use their analysis and see if you can spot anything bad, and ask about it here

data fragmentation also

a lot of people with ati cards/chipsets have some issues when they load the newer catalyst control center drivers and do better when they only use the basic video drivers

I did notice the ram upgrade, have you tested with just the new sticks

I thing jgweed is on the right track with your internet connection

I see, I'll take the old 256MB cards out and just leave my twin 1024MB cards in there.

What kind of things can I do with the data fragentation? Also do you know how to restore back to the basic drivers.

I was thinking of doing a PC format although that does seem a bit drastic, what do you think?

My other option was to buy a new video card but I have never had any problems with the standard card in there. Its strange really because everything was as above during WoW 2.3 and 2.4, but when they released 2.4.1, thats when my problems started really.

1. run down that high ping problem, retest, google

2. remove any catalyst drivers, go only with the basic
my son has never had any issues with nvidia and WOW, a friend with ait has had nothing but problems but they were solved
with driver installs and his card is a lot lamer than yours

3. be sure and shut down any background programs/screen savers and do disk cleanup before defraging

what type of scans have you done/what programs?

have you got the latest directx9c updates from microsoft?

Me and my Dad came to the conclusion that to restore the PC to its factory settings would be the most efficient way to get the PC back to normal, there is no hard proof or any evidence that installing the new drivers (which I have) have actually had a direct effect on how WoW runs anyway.

I use a wireless internet connection where the router hub itself is quite far away, what tips could you give for my high ping?

EDIT: Yes I'll check what directx I am using. In regards to scans, I have done a housecall, combofix and my own anti spyware and virus scanner from my ISP. The only other thing I used is "Cleanitup" to throw out those files that just sit there and clog up my PC.
