Hi Guys,

I've got a Dell Precision 330 here and I went to upgrade the Hard drive and it refuses to boot from anything other than the 10GB in it  . I want to over come this as soon as I can.

Any suggestions will be great!

Can you please provide some more information.

Have you installed a new drive?
What steps have you done to get your computer to boot off another drive?
Any error messages?

I tired to install Windows XP on the new drive but the computer will not boot from it.

I unplugged the old drive and plugged in the new one tried to install Windows XP, the drive formatted copied the files over to the HDD but then when the computer restarted it just wouldn't boot.

I'm stumped. I get no errors at all.

I plug the old drive back in and it boots without a problem.

How did you install XP on the new drive? Did the installation process seem to go okay? At what point won't the computer boot? That is, does it post? Do you see the XP splash screen? Have you tried to boot into Safe Mode?

Sorry for so many questions

Seems like a slight chance that the new partition was not made active...which would result in it not booting.

Did you use a Microsoft XP CD to install XP? Or a recovery disk? Or a recovery partition? Or what?

What is the size of the new hard drive...and what version of XP are you attempting to install (SP1, SP2)?

Is the new hard drive properly detected in the BIOS?
