I'm running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service pack 2

I installed Office 2000 and I'm running Outlook 2000. My email account is with Bellsouth (AT&T)

I setup a new email account and asked it to remember my password but it keeps asking me for the password every time I hit send and receive.

The usually happens to me when the account settings are incorrect, not your password.
