I want to share my BROADBAND ADSL internet connection with 2 computers. If I purchase a Linksys ADSL2MUE Ethernet and USB ADSL Modem, or similar, will it do the job? It has 1 USB connection to plug into one computer( running XP sp2) to replace the USB only MODEM that I have at present. It also has an ethernet connection so I assume that this could plug into the network card on the other computer*running W98se). How do I configure both computers to access the internet? If I expand the network to share files & printers by buying a hub will I be able to plug the ethernet connection into that to share the internet connection with other computers on the network. I would then stop using the USB connection. Thanks for any help. R M Banfield |

I don't think it will work like that . Here the modems that have both USB and Ethernet have different MAC for each port , with would require seperate accounts(pay twice) . I would recommend you stay away from USB . While most have no problem once in awhile there is a problem . If you have Ethernet NIC use it . After all it was made for that . Now connecting the two computers . I would recommend a router wired or wireless , I perfer wired . With a print server built in . Make sure if you printer is USB/parral the router/server has the approperate port . Yhe router will be from $40 USD and up depending on what bells and whistles you get . You could for go the print server and just port you printer through you primary printer . But that Machine would have to stay on to print . A router with DHCP ,which all have , makes setup easy and painless . Just my thoughts .

That sounds great . On this side of the Pond some DSL providers supply a wireless modem/router with 4 Ethernet wired ports . As far as the server I described just access the printer for now through the first computer from the second computer . Sounds like you have a plan . Good luck , and let us know how it works out .
