I recently bought my friend's computer from him almost 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine with it and it had AVG 8 which i didn't know what it was until i looked it up online. I just left it on the computer because it was supposed to be a good anti virus program. But about two days ago when AVG 8 warned me that the spyware and virus database were out of date I tried to update it and it seemed to install the new updates but afterwards it said the databases were still out of date. I tried to install the updates manually but when i try to do so it says: "The update has not been finished because the installation is corrupted." I then tried to unistall AVG but when i try it says there was 1 error and to click on "Details" for more information and when I click on it this message appears:

"Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgfwfd.inf: file unregistration....
AVG Firewall NDIS driver installation failed.
Error 0x2: SetupUninstallOEMInfW for fw driver failed. - Possible cause: The system cannot find the file specified."

After i got this error i found out that AVG 8 has a firewall with it but i noticed that the AVG 8 interface doesn't have the firewall component but i just thought it was because the computer already had the Windows Firewall.

you might wish to check from where the AVG8.0 was downloaded?

I was oddly looking AT avg 8.0 for another forum and found this legit site http://www.grisoft.com/ww.product-avg-anti-virus#tba2

but a google search then produced http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q...earch&meta=

which, I think you will agree, has some very worrying programs ON that search

which windows version is it running on? as a possibility is to do a system restore to prior TO the avg8.0's installation? then try with avg 7.5?

If your friend has pirated this copy of AVG v8.0, uninstall it and download AVG Free v7.5 from Here.

There is a FAQ for AVG v8.0 to peruse, if your friend can produce a license number. Scroll to item # 504:AVG "Installation file is corrupted"

He would have received the number when purchasing this software.

may I suggest that, once you have the correct and legal version of AVG antivirus program on there, you fully update it, reboot into safe mode and run a fully deep scan?

I would also suggest you might with to run two other scans to check for nasties that may too be on the computer
superantispyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/superantis...efreevspro.html

free exe is http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfi...ANTISPYWAREFREE

and a squared http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ its free exe is http://download6.emsisoft.com/a2FreeSetup.exe

I suggest you fully update each, reboot again into safe mode and run each on a full deep scan ;

let us know what, if any unwanted guests they trawl up?

Also I think that the crack may not have been the actuall problem. I BETA tested AVG 8 and had the problems just like you but more of them. I even had pretty much the same problems occurring when it was out of beta. Sticking with AVG 7.5 is your best option thumbup2.gif .

David.
