I have tried to install AdAware and other programs on the "how to post a HJT log" list (I log on on the administrator account), but my computer keeps saying that I can't use windows installer while on safe mode. Is there any way I can install these programs? |

There is a method that purportedly allows Windows Installer to run in safe mode. I have not tried it with Windows Vista, though.
WARNING: Editing the Registry can be hazardous. Be sure to backup the registry before undertaking any changes to it. See this article for instructions to back up the registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756 1. Boot into safe mode. 2. Backup the registry 3. open a command prompt window 4. Enter the following command at the prompt: CODE REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service" 5. Enter the following command at the prompt: CODE net start msiserver The Windows Installer should now work. -------------------- root@bleepingcomputer>./sig_file

Hello Mosp
Because you have an HJT log posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic136914.html DO NOT make any further changes to your computer: deleting files, editing the registry, using special fix tools, installing or uninstalling software etc. as this will make it more difficult for the HJT team to help you. Please be patient as the HJT team is EXTREMELY busy. DO NOT bump your log as the team may think that someone is already helping you. If you have not had a response by, lets say, April 5 add a response to the five days no response topic and paste in the link to your thread. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.
