I am unclear whether you cannot open the spreadsheet from Excel, or on the other hand you cannot open the file on your hard drive by clicking on it there. Does this happen to all spreadsheets or just one in particular? Have you checked the files Properties to see what is under "opens with'?

John, thanks for the quick reply. i load the file to the excell program once it has opened. it does not load automaticly into excell.
i click on the excell file, excell opens, but does not load the file. i must open the file while in excell to work on it. it does open that way. tom |

Yeah I sometimes get that problem. I open the file and only Excel loads but not the file. Then to open it I need to click on File>>Open>> Select my file from there then it opens. It might be a bug with Office because it doesn't happen with just Excel.
