Driving to my daughter's on trash day, Lo ans behold, sitting next to the trash can is a computer case. I picked it up and double-checked with the person in the house. She said yes, it's garbage, they tired of messing with it and bought a new one. Run the numbers on it and it's a 2 year old Compaq. Opened it up and the interior is a clean as a whistle. Checked the power supply and it was bad. put a new one in and it fired right up. Windows Media Center and it runs like a champ. I wonder if I should be a nice guy and save her documents and pictures for her

Yes, garmanma, that would be a very nice thing to do.

Except for the porn - send it to me!

I know you think you understand what you thought I said,
but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

I agree. It would be a nice thing to do. I was given an old computer that "died", according to the owner. I got it going. No major problems at all that I can remember now. But I found some documents in it the looked business related and private. I didn't read them entirely...just enough to get the gist that they might be important. So I made copies for her. It was an old computer that her terminally ill husband had used. I don't know if I actually recovered anything they didn't have already, but it made me fell good to do that for her.

I think I'd just graciously give them the copies of their stuff, but maybe you might not want to inform them of the treasure they let go of. Let them feel good about getting their stuff back and let it go at that.

That's a great idea seeing they gave you a perfectly good computer that needed a new power supply
Now I'm going to go past houses on trash collection day and look for computers :flowers:

If only people like the one that garmanma got the computer from knew about BC.

LOL I do that for a living (Trashman) You wouldn't believe the amount I find . If people only knew lol . they are lucky I am a honest guy towards their private info and I have saw so much it makes me wonder what is wrong with most novices people . The stories I can tell would make you laugh. The main reason as to why I got into computers was because of the amount I find ( resell )
