Important Announcement: We have two terrific contests running on the site that I wanted all our members and guests to know about.

The first contest is the HP Magic Giveaway, which is underway as of November 28th. More information can be found at this topic, which will be updated very soon with further information.

The second contests, is for the chance to win two Seagate FreeAgent external hard drives. More information about this contest can be found here.

I have been trying to scan a page to excel but the scanner (a Brother MFC 410CN) scans it to a BMP (BMP file) or a JPG (JPEG file) or a PNG (PNG File) TIF (TIF Image) and despite several attempts to change it to a MS excel It won't open.
Vista Helps I find are next to useless.

When you scan a document it gets scanned in an image format (such as: BMP, JPG, PNG or TIF). For Excel to be able to read it you will have to do a optical character recognition (OCR), which is also known as text recognition, on the scanned image. I don't know too much about it but you might want to read here and then post back if you have further questions.
