Welcome to the forum! First question is why would you want to install Windows 95? That is ok so long as the computer never goes on the Internet. No antivirus/antispyware program that I know of will run with 95 anymore. Windows 95 cd's are not bootable. Load 98 if you have it. Windows SE cd's ar bootable. Nec has drivers back to Windows 3.1 on this system. http://support.necam.com/downloads/search/default.htm How old is it? |

The reason I would like to install 95 is the computer can only handle 95 on it. My kids would like to play with it and some games they have can play on it.I have a windows 98 disk thats what got it to this point wright know. Thats why I'm tring to fix it so they can play with it. Do i have to get 95 on floppy disks to boot it up?

You are right. The system only has 16 megs of ram on it. 95 will work with that just fine, 98 wont like it.
95 came on both floppy or cd Do you have either? The original 95 floppies came in DMF format (Distribution Media Format). The disks contaned 1.7 megs each which is more than a standard floppy can hold. Also, floppies fail over time. It would be better if you had a cd. You also need the video & audio drivers from the link above File names vidcrd95.exe & l6220b95.exe Download them & burn them onto cd for when you need them. |

Sorry Keith but that wont work. You have to sys the drive to make it bootable in 95 & 98.
The way I do both 95 & 98 is to put the cab files on the hard drive. This prevents a lot of problems during the installation. Instructions assume you have a 95 cd and a cd key. Look for a sticker on the bottom of the laptop for a sticker that has the key on it. It is usually there Boot to a 98 floppy disk & select cdrom support. The cd will now work using generic drivers. Type FORMAT C: & hit enter. (caps not necessary just for clarity) When format is complete type C: & hit ENTER The prompt will say C:> Type MD WIN95 & hit ENTER Type CD WIN95 & hit ENTER The prompt will say C:\WIN95> Type COPY E:\WIN95\*.* to copy the cab files to the win95 folder on the hard drive. Boot disks will assign the cd one drive letter higher than normal. Thats why it is E not D. Take the cd out. You are done with it. Type SETUP & let it go. Follow the prompts. Then load the video & sound drivers from the link above Thats it. This is the way I always do 95 & 98. Putting the cab files on the hard drive prevents a lot of problems during the installation. |

I do have a windows 95 cd. I also have the drivers . Sound like fun to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. thank you guys for taking the time to help me . So what should i do first? the hard drive is formated so then what should I do?

A lot of people dont want to deal with Windows 95 anymore.
Believe me, if I had a dollar for every Windows 95 installation I have done I would be living in the Bahamas! Follow the instructions that I posted to the letter! Always copy Windows 95 & Windows 98 cab files to the hard drive and install from there! Any questions dont hesitate to ask! |
