i would happily chip in but i think there is a few issues that need looking at first for instance
who would you send the money to?
who would pay the electric bill ?
who would pay for the upkeep of the p.c?
other than that it would be a great idea
Well being that most don't really know each other well personally, I would think the best would be to send the money to grinler, have him order the parts to someone (I'll use me as an example, being I brought it up) and I would build the computer (being I do it for a living anyway). The upkeep, there is no cost because if it was at my home, it would be for a good cause and my small business that I run with my dad would deal with any problems it might, and probably wouldn't, encounter. The biggest issue I could see with this is the electric bill. Maybe we could let it run for a month and than see what the price is (approximatley) and divide it amongst ourselves. Or even if it's not all that much (because a computer really doesnt take that much power, its the monitor thats the power hog and that will be off most of the time) and I'm hosting it, you won't even have to worry about it and I'd take care of it. Yeah this probably seems kinda fishy that I want people's money for a computer that no one will see, but it's just an idea and anyone of the more seasoned folders could host it as well.
EDIT: And of course, all money would be more than likley sent through PayPal.

TheYoda

Also, I have a spare DVD drive so thats another $12 off. And actually, you can hold the 10GB cause i found a 40GB that works good. Also, a friend of my dad is giving him his computer because the harddrive died (I'm gunna asume it's old and not all that powerful, being hes giving it away) and I'll see what parts I can get from that.
Also, we wouldn't need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse, just a KVM switch with my current dedicated folding computer, which takes about $500 off the build, lol.
So with Harddrive, CD Drive and ATX case out of the way, the new totals are as follows:
Subtotal=$501.95
Shipping=$11.08
Grand Total=$513.03
How many of you would be willing to donate money, and/or parts to make a bleeing computer dedicated folding machine?
PS - and of course, the results and points won't go under anyones name, just under the user name Dedicated or something like that under our team.
Regards,
TheYoda

Translation: Stanford determined that using many smaller systems each working a small part was better than trying to enlist major corporations to dedicate time to the project. It also allows them to reprocess the results in smaller chunks.
And this allows them to quickly change any direction of the research as they see fit.
//Aside: Some BC folders can relax for a few days,as I managed to burn up a system.
