We've had another BC member sneak quietly onto the BC F@H Team.

terrordv logged at F@H as terrordv2 and has put his first mark up for the team. First WU @ 58 points.

Congrats and Welcome.

As a BC Team, we will break under the 1200 top ranked contributers within a month or less.\

That's quite a milestone considering how small this team really is just now.

Cheer yourselves for your contributions to a great cause!

Congrats to Team #38444!!! Keep on folding.....

I've been noticing how rapidly our rank has been rising lately. That will be an impressive milestone to reach. Over at the FAH forums, people there talk about having computers built & dedicated for no other purpose than folding, and one member mentioned having it on 10 computers! (I don't think that was a reference to a business network, either.) A lot of them amass huge bonus points, too.

Will be uploading my 8th WU in about 45 minutes and breaking into the 2000+ points range. I've been running two WUs on my dual core for the last week or so, but I'm going to switch back to just one. Instead of taking full advantage of the dual core, according to my task manager they seem to be splitting the CPU usage I assigned to them, which doesn't seem particularly beneficial. Besides, I've been missing the "instant gratification" I get from watching one WU finish quickly, rather than two finish slowly. LOL

I also ran a couple Intel dual core units for a short time and decided to just run one F@H unit on each system.

I actually get a better WU usage and finish time with a smaller system. Tho' I fear it's dying of a hard drive failure.

FOLD on Friends...

//Edit: I should note none of these systems are 100% dedicated to F@H... they do share other work.

I think that's the case for me, too. This last WU that I just uploaded (turns out it was my 7th, not 8th) worked much faster with the second console turned off for the time being.

Sorry to hear about the potential HD problem, KY. Several folks at the FAH forum said that folding actually puts a heavy strain on our systems. I wonder just how much that might ultimately lend itself to hardware problems.

I've seen no real strain by the F@H programs working on any system really.

I do buy some garage sale junk, try to bring them back to life and use them if possible.

Otherwise, I only set other systems to work when I'm not.... Forest Gump Rules.... giggle.

You'll all probably never see more than three cores working at 50% from me at anytime as I have other work to accomplish also.

Fold On!

Wow, I just checked on my newest WU. It's using only 40% of my CPU, completing a step every 20 minutes, is only 200,000 steps, isn't due for 82 days, and will earn 293 points! OTOH, is it possible that it'll slow down during the process and not keep folding at such a fast rate?

ETA: I keep forgetting to mention ... It's probably safe to delete that username "Y" from the team. I'm quite sure it's a leftover from one of my two aborted attempts to sign up last month.

1. Don't worry about the "Y" - that wasn't you = Dialer.

2. Even at 40%, as long as you don't physcally turn off your system, it will fold at that rate as long as your system is active.

3. If you do shut down your system the F@H will auto restart, and pick up at the last check point.

1. Well, then, it's good to know I didn't screw up everything, for a change.

2. Not sure my question was clear, but I think you answered it anyway. I was wondering if there was anything inherent in the folding process (unrelated to my specific computer) that changes the timing during a run.

3. Actually, because I still have two active consoles that weren't functioning properly together running as services, I switched them both to -local. But I use the little TrayIt! utility I found through the F@H forum to keep them in my systray rather than on the taskbar. Once the second console finishes its current WU, I'll close it down and probably move the first console back to services.

Thanks, KY!

The only thing I'm aware of is if there's a glitch in the core as in corrupted download that forces an abort.
I've had about 6 of those in 135 WU's I've D/L'd.

WU's seem to run consistent for me at about the same speed on similar sized units.
