Thank you, thank you very much.

Heh, one of my certificates says I've earned 0 points, and in the other it says I've folded 0 WUs. But in my profile it says my score is 165. Isn't score the same as points? Oh well, maybe the database still needs to catch up with me.

Meanwhile, my new peptides and I are folding away. Go team!!! :flowers:

Thanks so much, TMacK! I don't know why, but it absolutely cracked me up to see the certificate here.

Took a week, but I "Got 'r done!" First WU was (5000) and worth 186 points. New one is only (1000), but memory usage has doubled to 10Mb, so I guess it's working harder. Did I read that a smaller WU may be harder and worth more points? Or is the system designed to test the capacity of a newly added computer?

No offense boys and girls, but I haven't joined a team yet. I'm trying to stir up some interest at the MyWay Tech board, where I'm a regular. We recently discussed "Turn it off, or leave it running." In fact, that's what decided me on folding, since I'm in the 24/7 crowd.

Unfortunately, I've only had one taker (that I know of). So, if it doesn't pan out, "Ahl be bach", as 'Aahnuld' would say.

Cheers, Keith

Congratulations, Keith! I hope you'll be "bach" to join our team, but the most important thing is to fold, fold, fold for the cause, right?

Can't answer your questions without wandering through all the FAQ pages, but I'm sure one of the more experienced folders here will drop by.

I'm on slow dialup, so I elected not to receive anything over 5 MB. My first WU was exactly that size and worth 165 points. The one I'm working on now is only .5 MB, but I haven't noticed any difference in either RAM or CPU usage.

I'm not in the 24/7 crowd, but only because I live in a very rural area where we have frequent loss of power. Although I do have a UPS that gives me about 15 minutes to do a proper shutdown, I really don't want to wake up to that obnoxious beeping sound in the middle of the night just because the power when out for a little while. Also, I generally shut down if the weather is at all iffy or if I'm leaving home, even on a nice day just to go to the market (which is about half an hour away).

Keep on folding!

Well done Keith. Congratulations.

You don't have much say in what size units you are sent, and smaller work units generally generate higher points.

Cheers

Any idea why? (Not important to know, just my insatiable curiosity at work.)

Hey, Dialer! What I had read was in the first two pages of this topic.

"...And a WU is a work unit. Some are 25 points all the way up to 255 points. The bigger the point value the longer it takes. You don't get to choose what WU you get, it chooses it for you."

"...actually the higher the WU the faster it goes and less it is worth.! that 10,000 WU will not take very long to finish! The 400 WU's are worth the most and take the longest. There called gromacs."

Any more than that I can't tell you.

Okey dokey, then. That's a wee bit more than my ADDled brain can understand  , so I shall clamp a lid on my curiosity and not concern myself with the issue any further. Besides, my second WU is almost ready to send, so I should get some more info once the database is updated. :flowers: But thanks for the info!

Keith, FYI ...

I got 174 points for a 0.5 MB WU, which is 9 points more than I got for a 5 MB WU, so that seems to confirm it.

Really, they should give me extra points for the larger jobs, since I'm on slow dialup and the downloads and uploads take a long time. LOL
