I just downloaded F@H and Electron Microscope. This is a great idea! I finally have a use for my computer during the hours and hours it just sits idle. I joined team 38444 and I'm now waiting for my first frame to complete (in 2 minutes)

Hi Guys N Gals

Could someone please do something to expand out the heading of this forum. As it is, it tells browsers absolutely nothing about the subject and is subsequently totally overlooked.

I know it took me months to get around to reading it because there was nothing to indicate the subject matter, and I'm positive a lot of the good folks here would support this cause wholeheartedly if they knew what this was all about.

Can this be done?????

Cheers

Yes we should get a mod to edit the "sub topic" to briefly describe what "folding" is.

Or maybe a new thread should be started, providing basic but important facts about Folding so more BC members can get involved.
It really is an amazing project that touches many of us in one way or another.

Per your excellent suggestions I have modified the title to better reflect the subject of this thread. Thank you for your ideas. I hope you like the new title better.

Folding fact #19
Genes are sprawled over much larger regions in humans compared with fruit fly and nematode worm. Genes remain difficult to identify in humans because they form such a small portion of the genome and are so spread out, but it appears that the total number of genes is 30,000-35,000. Apparently, humans have only twice as many genes as the fly or worm, but they have on average three times as many kinds of proteins because of "alternative splicing," a process that can yield different protein products from the same gene.
