QUOTE(Papakid @ Aug 6 2004, 12:49 PM) Thanks for the tip about the console client, Iceman. If I read the FAQ's correctly, people on dialup have no choice but to use the console anyway. Is that correct, guys? Any tips for running a machine with multiple logons? You can use the console client on Dialup. You just use "asknet=yes" It should then ask you if you want to connect to the internet when it needs to go. I can also be set to auto dial but I don't think it will log you off the internet. I use Fire Daemon to run F@H as a service in NT, XP and 2000 http://www.nozero.org/FireDaemonFAH.htm This post has been edited by ColdinCbus: Aug 6 2004, 02:01 PM -------------------- |

I just started the second F@H project. (0/1000) I have a 3 hour download going in the background, this and a couple other Firefox windows open. Page loads are understandably slower, a Sygate alert popped up twice indicating F&H was callin' home and I "approved" and hovered my cursor over the tray icon to confirm the change.
This thing works like a charm...maybe with a few million home/business users at the task and diligent researchers benefitting from it I'll avoid being one of the 50% of all 85yr olds with Altzheimer's Disease. I've got 35 years 'til then. (maybe) -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

Working on the second work unit, and the process FahCore_78.exe has been keeping the cpu at 100%. This wasn't the case before, that I recall. Normal?

How do I scale it back to say 50%? Constant 100% cpu use hasn't upped the temperature in the system or cpu but I sense some strain and want to adjust it. I don't seem to find a procedure in my reviews of the information.

you right click on the little cog, and click configure then there is a slider under cpu usage that way you can slide it to whtever you want!

A team member has been briefly side-lined. I went to their support forum and got a very quick response:
New postPosted: Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:55 am Post subject: Reply with quote Stop the client and replace it by the new v5 and everything should work (Don't update if you are using Win 9x/Me). BTW: Even without updating you can get all the stats you want at http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/stats.html Best regards EDIT: To update the client, just replace the old FAH4Client.exe bx the new one, let all other files untouched _________________ www.Rechenkraft.net - The German DC-Community (#3) I was at 670/1000. a minor set-back, we've got a score of 5,159 and 72 WU Count as of now. -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...

OK, I got my answer from F@H forum. The EMIII comes into play. I can do without it, and get back on board immediately. That would leave me with questions about it, though. One question I have is this:
Where should it's folder be? I have it unzipped to a folder in my downloads folder. I launch it from there, as an install wasn't done. The answer I got for my problem brings more questions to mind. Here it is: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bruce Site Admin Site Admin Joined: 21 May 2002 Posts: 7881 Location: So. CA PostPosted: Fri Aug 13, 2004 8:43 pm Post subject: Reply with quote At this point, I would recommend that you install v5 again, and use the same folder location. Be sure you check both copies of the startup folder (one called "all users" and one with your username) before your next reboot. There must be not more than one shortcut with the protein icon commonly called the "red gear". If you have configured EMIII to start the client, remove the last shortcut from the startup folder, since you're choosing to use EMIII to do that - - or uncheck that box in EMIII. Let us know what happens, since it's not entirely clear what caused your initial problem. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, since it's not clear to me how the EMIII fits in, and thinking I should upgrade to the new version anyway if I use it, I thought I'd post for a 2nd opinion. (don't 'cha luv a thick headed cluebie?) I didn't have the EMIII configured to start the client, as near as I could tell. I downloaded it about 200/1000 into the 2nd WU and it didn't seem to interfere with the F@H operation the way I had it configured. (I don't think I had it working right, though... So, how should the EMIII work? -------------------- patiently patrolling, plenty of persisant pests n' problems ...
