Overclocking

I finally got my rig running(YEAH!) now its time to make it do what its supposed to. I want to overclock my sytem i see posts about people getting 3.0ghz and higher with the E4500 2.2 ghz processor. in my bios it has overclock profiles, but 20% overclocked is only 2.65 ghz.here is a list of what I have.

Asus P5N-E SLI mobo (with phoenix bios)
intel core 2 duo E4500
3gb corsair ddr2 (pc6400)
450w psu
xfx force nvidia 8400gs graphic card
windows xp (64 bit)

Any help on how to set the multiplier , bus speed, and voltages at would be extremely helpful.

each of these mobo's are a little different but most follow a common pattern

first forget voltages, good cpu cores don't need much extra voltage to overclock

heat and clean stable power are big issues

your memory can't handle the higher frontside bus that the cpu can so as you raise the fsb manually slowly in small steps you have set the memory back or down to a slower speed

your 800 memory set to 667 will end up overclocked too much

going to 533 might allow the cpu to reach 3 ghz

you need to monitor what the ram and cpu are doing with cpu-z as you do the overclock

533 +40% should get the ram back close to specs

2.2 +40% would be 3.1 ghz

excellant i was still a little trigger shy of some of the bios settings and I had already been through a long day. I started up fresh this morning and was able to get 3.02 ghz. I will prolly try and tweak it more in the near future. I am definately happy with the results thus far.

coretemp is the best utility for seeing the real die temps

everest lays out all the memory on one page

don't get in a rush, all this takes weeks to research, tweak and understand
