Just installed 8 gB of RAM into my MSI 975x PUE mobo. Memory is detected in BIOS Windows says info on RAM and CPU is "not available" CPU-Z reports all information correctly (8gB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo 6600) System doesn't seem noticeably faster - but I don't do that much to stress it out. Hmmmm....haven't checked the Performance tab in Task Manager. Will have to do that when I get home! Any ideas? 3 things that may/may not be significant: 1) On the first reboot there was a line on the screen noting 4 gB and another just below it noting 8 gB. It flashed by too quickly for me to determine if it was just the old vs new numbers or if it was something else. 2) Some info on this mobo indicates it will only recognize 7+ gB of RAM due to BIOS limitations (when I RTFM) 3) Cannot flash the BIOS with the 8 gB installed. Flash starts and gives a "Please wait" that never goes away. I crashed the flash (yes, it was scary!) and the system boots back into Windows without any problems. BIOS version is 7.4 - with up to 7.7 available (7.6 may contain a fix that could help this issue - but the documentation isn't very clear). My next step is to downgrade to either 2 or 4 gB of RAM and attempt the flash from there. Any other suggestions? This post has been edited by usasma: Feb 29 2008, 07:59 AM

Any other suggestions? you are out there with chuck yeager, the bios was a given, with 2 gigs of older ram then you need to relax the timings and up the voltage if necessary before putting in the 8 saving from bios and shutting down, not rebooting is tricky  and chew a stick of beaman's and put on your tinfoil hat This post has been edited by DaChew: Feb 29 2008, 08:40 AM -------------------- Chewy

and then I would run vista as a repair disk, can you slip sp1 into the cab files and burn a new dvd?

I get all 8 gB when I'm wearing my tinfoil hat - so everything must be OK!
 Seriously, I can see the memory in Task Manager and Resource Monitor - but not in the Windows Experience scores or in MSINFO32. Behaves the same with the Auto memory settings, or setting the voltage and CAS manually. -------------------- - John
