I've downloaded the drivers from dell, tried a couple others, and still winamp gives me "bad directsound drivers"... its not just the winamp configuration--absolutely no sound comes out. The sound used to work perfectly when i was using vista on this same computer (dell vostro 200), but with XP i've had no luck whatsoever. what can i do? is compatibility so messed up that I should just go for a new sound card?

fixed it!!!!!
for those of you with the same problem, xp just had to find the drivers... sounds obvious, i know, but it was under "PCI device", and i also had to install dell media card readers, smarcard updates from microsoft update, and when i clicked "reinstall driver" for the pci device with a yellow exclamation point, said install it for me, blue progress bars went by, a beep came out of the speakers and i leapt with fright and joy!
