This one kept popping up on my "ZoneAlarm".
I think it arrived as part of a "SolidWorks" installation I've recently done.
A quick click on "Deny" shuts it up, but I'm reluctant to permanently block it until I'm sure all my software doesn't need it.

I am running XP Pro and last week my computer started running Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slow.
I could see that searchfilterhost.exe was tacking all available memory.
I uninstalled Windows Search 4.0 and everything seems to be OK.
Thank you everyone, this was a tremendous help.

OK- so the $64,000 question is - how did you uninstall Windows Search 4.0? I see it in my Program Files folder, but there is no uninstall routine, nor does it appear in the Remove Programs list...
Am I going to have to do this manually, i.e., delete the folder containing the program and then cleanse the registry?
Thanks!

That program is native with Vista, come as part of the install.
If you are running XP, then it had to be installed...there should be an entry in Add/Remove Programs for it.
If not, then something like Revo Uninstaller may assist.
