hi, i have a windows xp pro., an internet explorer 7, a paradyne 6218-I2 router. i wanted to find out if i could forward the port that IE uses. i know how to forward ports, the thing is i can't find the port that it uses ( a friend of mine said that IE cannot be forwarded).i already have a static ip adress (so the settings won't get mixed up). i wanna know where i can find the port number IE uses for my computer.

It depends on what functions you're using in IE
It uses port 80 for normal web traffic (but so do a lot of other applications)
It uses port 8080 for secure web traffic (but so do a lot of other applications)
It uses port 21 if you're doing FTP stuff through it (but so do a lot of other applications)
It can also be assigned other ports

In short, you can forward the ports that IE uses - but you'll find that many other applications use these ports. And forwarding these ports may end up "breaking" a lot of those apps - so tread with caution.

ok so i finally had the guts to forward port 80 but then it says that it something like "web traffic uses this port and is hereby changed to port 8080". What gives? should i just turn around and forward that too? but you said it was the for secure web trafficing which i dare not temper with! thnx for the fast reply :D

You'll need to be more specific as to what you're forwarding the ports on (a router or a PC), and why you're doing it (for what reason). In the meantime, I'd suggest visiting this website: http://www.portforward.com

i'm forwarding the ports for a router, and that is because i need IE to perform faster, that and i've tried portforward.com but to no avail (the guides for my paradyne don't include a IE one)
