Recently I purchased a HP Pavilion M8330f from the electronic store. I was hoping to add a second dvd writer(hp dvd 1040i). I had added a dvd burner to my old hp some years ago so I thought this one should be little trouble. Couldn't have been more wrong. Upon opening the case I realized that things have changed considerably since last I saw the inner workings of a computer. My system is: AMD Phenom 9500, MS Windows Vista home premium edition, nvidia geforce 8500 gt. Anyone with any experience or suggestions on how to install this piece of hardware would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

From what I could see, it looks as though your computer has only SATA inputs (2 of them). Your hard drive and DVD player may already be hooked up to the only 2 you have. A SATA cable is only about 1" wide and is usually RED. What do you see in there?

You could get an expansion card that would allow you to have more SATA (or IDE for that matter) drives. They come with 2 or 4 inputs usually, at a reasonable price ($20-30).

Good luck.

It's just as you described it. Instead of seeing a ribbon, as I expected, I see a red cable running to my other drives. Thanks for the education, hopefully things should progress a little easier now.
