Sick of my new Vista Premium laptop crashing every day so took it back to factory condition on Sunday.

Went to reinstall F@H and 5.04 has been retired, so installed a couple of the new 6.2 Consoles. Just checked and one was running fine, while one had shutdown just after starting. Deleted the offending config file and remembered this time to 'Run as Administrator'. (Mutter mutter Vista)

Has anyone heard reports about the new version? If it seems to run better, I will replace my other 4 cores. Have slowed this one down from 75%CPU to 60%, and set both to 2000MB of RAM so will see what happens. My results have been disappointing lately.

If any of our former FOLDERS would like to try the new version, please yell and we will attempt to help with any hiccups - it is fairly straight forward with  a little practice.

FOLD ON TEAM 38444.

Cheers, Rob

after my second format in a fortnight, i just installed the cmd line programme. i like it. it seems lighter on resources. what does bother me is that the cmd window always shows in the taskbar. can you not have it run as a service or something, so that i wont have to have the window open all the time? it says you can push "ctrl c", but that also seems to stop the folding sad.gif.

Hi YOHI.

It certainly will run as a service. You should have got that option as you were setting it up. Check your services and see if F@H is started and running. If so you should be able to close the command window which will now be just a log file.

If the service is there in Services, check that it is set to Automatic. If not there, you can put the -svc flag in the configonly but that is getting a bit messy. I would be inclined to stop everything, delete the CFG file and start again, taking particular attention to say yes to advanced options and just following your nose.

You can run it from anywhere in XP, but in Vista it should be kept away from Program Files; I run mine in F@H folders in My Documents.

It is a little difficult to keep an eye on progress with the Console version. The easiest way is to go into the Folder, right click on the LogFile and send to Desktop(create Shortcut). This will give you a snapshot each time you open the file from the desktop.

Cheers

hi rob,

thanks for the info. it seems to be listed as an automatic service, but not started (although its in the autostart folder and ran before hand). The service seems to run from the temp directory and for some reason i am too daft to have the config work again sad.gif. I ll have to look at it when I have more patience and time for it.

thanks again.

johannes

Hi guys smile.gif

I just installed F@H not long ago and I am 1 fifth of a way through my first unit .

What I like about it is that it uses unused CPU power but doesn't get in the way of any other program :D

Also I am running the latest version (6.20) and have had an issue with the Viewer. Whenever I open it is comes up with this:

Anyone else getting that?

Hi Pr3diction

Welcome to BleepingComputer and to F@H Team 38444.

I am using all Console versions which run automatically in the background, so am not familiar with Viewer.exe. Have you tried clicking on the link in the error message which should give you info on what steps to take.

Cheers

Yes welcome to the team Pr3diction!

As far as my progress slowing down, now that I'm actually paying for my own electric I can't really afford to leave the PS3 and my computer on 24/7, but my brothers and grandma computer are still churning away, along with about 2-4 computers that belong to friends of the family. smile.gif

Thanks for the welcomes to the team smile.gif

My PC isn't a major beast so it will take some time to get the units done. I don't leave it running on its own just to fold, I only have it on if it is being used smile.gif

As Rowal5555 said: Every WU counts. No matter how long it takes one to complete [within the given time limits of course]

I'm lucky to have four little core-duo Toshiba lappies here just a churning away.

My main system is down for a heart/lung replacement. I wore it out doing TDM decrypts and F@H at the same time.
One could fry eggs on the case above the CPU/Power Supply... ha ha

I'm planning on shifting it to a Linux OS for the master and then we'll really FOLD ON BC TEAM

Recently started folding again, and installed both the CPU and GPU clients on my gaming rig. The CPU clients run fine, but the GPU client crashes before it can start working.

Anyone know whats going on?

That's too bad, my gpu client smokes my old cpu client. If someone is really into this and wants to build a computer for this, get a cheap set up, and shell out around $150 or less for a graphics card, and you'll get a lot of points smile.gif .

Yea the GPU's are the way to go! Especially if you want more points per work unit. Hence why I've completed so many darn WU and ratio of points/WU is about 177.

Did you install the beta nvidia cuda drivers? Or are you on ATI?
