Couple of things,
First:

Second:
I very much recommend the GPU client to anyone who has one that can handle it..... You can see what adding that one client has done to my 24hr stats.....
I thought it would make little difference... boy was I wrong :D

Billy?

You might explain for others here just exactly what a GPU is and how to effect such results. Some may have the means but not know how to start it up?

Thanks,
K

No problem, Koan. smile.gif

A GPU is the processor which is part of your graphics card. Typically, you see these with Gaming hardware, and the graphics card is used by the game to render the visuals on the screen.

You can do this for ATI/AMD cards, but I've never owned an ATI card, and honestly don't know how ATI's client works. I think you can just download the client from here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther , but I haven't tried.

Well, if you have an nVidia card in the 8xxx series or above, you can go to this page and download a beta driver that supports nVidia's new CUDA technology, which allows software applications to make use of the GPU's processing power.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_get.html

Installation of the new driver will require a reboot.

Then you can download the nVidia GPU2 Client from here:
http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/f...stray-612b6.msi

You just install it like the other installers. When you run the client, it will be using the GPU.

It should be noted that the GPU client does have some drawbacks. It does basically freeze my machine while it's in use. It's not something I would run if I was actually using this machine on a day to day basis. I have been using a laptop lately smile.gif.

Honestly, the GPU client is still in the early beta phase... don't run it on a machine which you are actively using :D

Any other questions would be much better answered here:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-ATI2

Yes, my gpu client always receives WU's that are 10,000. I let my computer run this client all night and part of a day a few days ago, and I've gotten about 7 WU's completed already. The cpu version took a lot longer then this.

I should probably let it run more, but my graphics card tends to get on the hot side, so I like to give it breaks sometimes.

I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 3870. What graphics card's are people using here for the graphical client? Just curious to see.

^^^^^

My new "creation". smile.gif Designed for folding, made completely out of spare stuff that was free/cheap. tongue.gif

Consists of 1 P4, and 3 PIIIs, and a rackmount switch that I found cheap. Right now they're running individually, but now that the new version of the client is a stable release, and now supports MPI (it does, right? I didn't misread it?), I should be able to put some Gigabit ethernet in there, and watch the thing haul. bike.gif

Also have a dual core AMD Athlon X2, and 2 other P4 desktops running the client now, unfortunately ALL my video cards are NVIDIA, not ATI, and can't run the special clients.

I'll post how fast this thing will crank out WUs once I have some definite results.

While the new version does support MPI, it only does so on one machine. I.e., to take advantage of multiple cores / CPUs.

The SMP client is REALLY buggy... won't even run on my machine. But it's worth it point wise.

The GPU client supports NVidia chips in the 8xxx series or above.
