2 comps - upstairs: NICK win xp home sp1 microsoft wireless-g pci adapter MN-730 downstairs: HAL win xp home sp1 (i know, i know, ive been meaning to get sp2) cnet pro2000WL fast ethernet adapter 1 Microsoft Broadband Networking wireless-g base station MN-700 1 cable modem (some unknown brand with no software or buttons or options or anything rented from the cable co.) Charter hi-speed cable internet around June i set this all up: Cable Modem connected through ethernet to Base station. base station connected through ethernet to HAL and through wireless to NICK and it worked great. perfectly. no troubles at all once i got the file/printer sharing bugs worked out within the first day. but now suddenly (starting about a week ago) i turn HAL on and theres no internet or network connection. no settings changed, im sure of that(i tried a few system restore points even one from 2 months ago). and NICK has full network and internet like there's nothing wrong, but it can't access HAL because HAL refuses to realize that its connected! i tried reinstalling the MSBN stuff that came with the base station and reconfiguring my ethernet adapter through that, but nope. i also tried just bypassing the entire network and base station ans putting the modem ethernet cable right into the ethernet port, and it works fine. why has the base station stopped aknowledging HAL? ok i ran it and all it had were these 3:
mswsock.dll winrnr.dll rsvpsp.dll and after a quick google i see that there are all legitimate... |

nope, nothing's different
i actually tried putting the msbn cd in and reinstalling it, clicking set up a product and going though all that but when it comes to "Searching for base station..." it takes about 10 minutes and says there isn't one connected. |

Maybe try replacing the cable between HAL and the base station

both enet cables work fine...i tested them by connecting each to the modem and the enet port on HAL, and when i do that, internet works perfectly for HAL, but since there's no modem connected to the base station when i do that, NICK gets nothing

So that shows us its the base station causing the problem with HAL, or a port on the base station. Have you tried a different port on the basestation?

nope, even though dhcp server is turned on on the base station...

The only thing i can think to try is to replace the nic card on it. See if you can buy a nic that is returnable and see if that helps

but the card works...when i unplug HAL from the router and put the modem directly into the very same ethernet port that the connection to the base station was in, the internet works fine.

Good point...i forgot about that. Its either a problem with the basestation hub or a config issue. At this point I am not sure and you may want to see if you can get microsoft involved.
