Good day folks. This is my first post, so bare with me. I installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my laptop. The previous version was Vista home premium. Now, during installation, after the first restart (before you choose your country, keyboard language etc.) I recieved a memory dump...and it would just cycle from there, so I did a cold boot, then booted it back up again, and then it resumed the installation where you choose you language settings etc. So I got running, installed the first driver, restarted....another memory dump, with the same cycle. So I did another cold boot, and it started up fine. After installing the second driver, I decided to shut down the machine then start it back up by turning it on, and it booted fine again...So, the blue screen only happens when I choose to restart. Now, I did not choose the option to upgrade, I deleted the partitions and did clean install. I also installed another 2 GBs of RAM. I thought that the extra RAM may have cause the problem, but I took it out of the system, and nothing changed....Ran memtest, it passed...Please help.

Its a DELL Inspiron 1720.

Dell doesn't list any 64 bit drivers for your system - where are you getting them from? Usually, in this case, it's because of incompatible hardware. An examination of the memory dump would help. Instructions here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246
