Hello,
I have the feeling that the restore point made the day before are not available anymore.
For how long is Vista keeping the Restore Points?

How long are restore points saved?
Restore points are saved until the hard disk space System Restore reserves is filled up. As new restore points are created, old ones are deleted. If you turn off System Protection (the feature that creates restore points) on a disk, all restore points are deleted from that disk. When you turn System Protection back on, new restore points are created.

I noticed you were Vista Home dual boot with XP.

In this version of Windows, restore points are created differently and are not recognized by earlier versions of Windows. If you have a dual-boot configuration and you start an earlier version of Windows, the earlier version will delete any restore points created by this version of Windows. If you start this version of Windows, restore points will resume being created automatically.

i find backing up my computer to external drive with vista ultimate easy as like one big restore point..better then using SR!

As I run Dual boot, I used the ùsoft solution with success
"Method 1
To keep Windows XP from deleting restore points
of the volume in Windows Vista,
add the following registry entry under the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\Offline registry subkey in Windows XP:

Value name: \DosDevices\D:
Type: REG_DWORD
Value data: 1

Note If the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices\Offline registry subkey
does not exist, you must manually create this registry subkey.
Create this registry entry when you have installed Windows Vista
on the "D" partition in Windows XP."
