Have Tune Up Utilities and it is finding registry erros of keys it says don't exist. I have tried to run its program to correct the errors but they just keep coming back.

I'm wondering if there is a better program to use??? I downloaded Registry Seeker but after running it Tune Up Utilites shows the same errors.

acrobat
-------
The key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\DefaultIcon is incomplete. The subkey DefaultIcon was created to indicate the default icon, but no icon has been entered.

When you check on it it says "The specified key does not exist"

Any suggestions would sure be appreciated. Thanks!!!!

I use C Cleaner and Wise registry cleaner. Both are free and I have had no problems with them. Please do a BACKUP in case the unforeseen happens. I have been using them for quite a while. Updates are good it suggests they are always improving it. I use it on vista ult.

I have CC and the first edition of RegAid. RegAid is freeware (the one I have is no longer available) and will only remove 10 entries at a time. CC seems to work well, but I pick up so much more with RegAid. I also have the first version of System Mechanic from Iolo (Supposedly a 30 day evaluation - easy fix). I run SM first on its Maintenance Wizard feature, then I use RegAid. If you use either of these utilities, make sure to deselect the drive that contains your Recovery Partition - if they have not been removed.

I believe I will remove CCleaner as it does not even come close to finding what SM does. I use SM & RegAid on XP - Home Edition and Vista - Home Premium. Have had no problems whatsoever and my machines are SMOKIN'! I also use a registry optimizer; "NT Registry Optimizer". I keep these and MANY other utilities burned to disk and on a flash stick. I carry the flash stick when friends and family call and complain that their machines are running slow or acting funny.

I was trained by the United States Navy to work on NUCWEPs computer controlled loading, storage and launching systems, so now that I am home; I get A LOT of calls. I would be more than happy to email as an attachment - RegAid & System Mechanic, let me know. Also, you might like Iolo's "Memory Mechanic", it is free for download and unlimited use. Works great.

FWIW - We do not recommend registry cleaners here. They cause more problems than they are worth. Here's a link to a full discussion about them: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=61015

Why don't you read the reviews for a range of registry cleaners here; http://www.repair-xp.com/reviews.html and make the call for yourself.

Good luck
