Pci Card To Pcie Vid.

Ok so i have a rig as follows

Pentium 4 HT 2.4ghz 800Ghz FSB
1gb pc-2700 ram
and nvidia geforce fx5500 256mb vid card PCI

If i upgrade to a PCI-E Video Card(Sli compatible because eventually im doing a rebuild)but for now will it make that much of a difference in my gaming. Im not having a problem with running most games, id just like to be able to run them on high quality. IM talking the sims 2 and 18wheels of steel haulin(lags like a bleep when on high). It runs vista's aero very well.

Also whats everyones take on sli v. crossfire? Being a nvidia powered kid, bc my friend persuaded me to get this card, i just automatically assumed to get SLI..whats your guys take on it?

Unless you have a newer motherboard like the one in my sig your board probably doesn't support PCI-E. PCI and PCI-E are completely different interfaces.

Yes, it supports pci-e x16 its an AsRock P4VM890 Socket 478.

A better video card will certainly help, although not as much as some other system upgrades. I'd suggest going with an nVidia 76xx series card or better with at least 256 mB of onboard video memory. That'll give you the most "bang for your buck".
