I finally retired my old compaq presario laptop 1670 and purchased a desktop compaq W17q. My old computer had windows 98 (which I loved) but this new one has vista, which I really don't know much about. When I start up my computer there are many, many toolbars such as:Comcast (this is my homepage) yahoo, google, mediabar. It came with Norton antivirus trial offer which has now just expired. With my old computer I had AVG (which was free) and ccleaner, and Adware. The whole layout of the screen looks very cluttered. What should I have running? How do I find out what is running? Should I install AVG and what other security things should I have? Should I uninstall Norton? and how do I uninstall it? I know I have many questions, but the whole VISTA layout is foreign to me? Any suggestions would be extremely helpful! Thank you!! Mar4

Hello Mar4
Uninstall alot of them toolbars and Norton, I have vista too and just have avg free running does me fine, I find vista secure anyhow you can go into Msconfig go to start run type msconfig then start up untick all things except avg and things you want to start up,alot of people dont need 1/2 the things in there to start up, I have msn messenger , avg, addmuncher etc, not many... so that's a start id say to uninstall alot of that crapware here is a picture of msconfig what mine looks like only have the things ticked you want to start up with pc ok.. oh forgot when you reboot if you see a box come up saying something just tick dont show next time...that's only because you unticked things changed it whistling.gif
