Help
Hello all. Well back again for some more of your great advice, I hope!
I have a HP laptop for repair that a usb port had been broken in. I noticed when I removed the old twin USB port that the pins were all uninsulated as the plastic spacer had been busted out.
Also they had plugged a USB modem into the knackard slot, shorting the lot.
Anyway I have installed a new USB port of the same type and I tested for continuity from the pins inside the port to a place on the mobo past the point where I had soldered them. They all appeared to be making a circuit.
When I plug in a USB optical mouse that lights up on my other PC, it fails to light up on the laptop and I get the USB device not reconised for any device I use in it.
I have tested the 5v line and they are working correctly, as is the ground pin and the chassis.
So, this is where I'm in the dark, that only leaves 'DATA +' and 'DATA -'.
How can I test these and if faulty how can I repair? Does the 'DATA+' carry any voltage?
Would the mouse light up with just the +5v & -VE pin usually?
Am I waffling?
