Hey everyone!

Got a couple of questions for the community.

First, I was wondering if I could use RAID on my laptop computer. It is an HP Pavilion dv8000 with two 80 gig hard drives. I know this isn't a lot of information and if I need to post more please let me know (how to get the information would also be nice).

Second, I was wondering if it is ok to overclock a laptop (no real way to control the extra heat).

I know these are brief questions and I will post any extra information if needed.

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup:

We RAID'd a laptop at work about 6 months ago - it'll depend if the BIOS will support RAID. Here's a link that I just read about software RAID: http://raid2raid.com/

Overclocking a laptop? Well, it may be doable - but the BIOS on a laptop is usually not capable of making the necessary adjustments - so you'd have to locate other software ways of doing this. Then you'd have to contend with the heat problem (and the CPU shutting down when it got too hot). No a viable option IMO.

Thanks for the reply usasma,

I think I wont bother overclocking my laptop although I still have some interest in setting up a RAID system on my computer.

How do I find out if my computer can/cannot support raid and how would I install it?

Thank! :thumbsup:

What's the make and model of your laptop?
Do you have 2 hard drives - or the space for 2 hard drives?

@usasma

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000us
The laptop has two Fujitsu MHV2080AH 80-gigabyte hard drives. I do not know if it has a raid controller in it though. Is there any way I could see if my computer can actually support a RAID 0 setup?

@hamluis

Thanks for those articles! Learned a lot from them.

Go into the BIOS (F10 as it first starts) and see if there are RAID options in there. Otherwise, try this link: http://raid2raid.com/
