Hi, do you now what caused Vista to go into safe mode? Did you insatall the sound driver and it would not boot correctly?

There is a spot within Vista that lists all of the recent shutdowns, installs and error messages. I am not on my Vista laptop but I recall seeing that it lists the type of shutdown or install and the resultant problems.
I believe it is under Control Panel. Here is a link to a Vista help site.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Have you unchecked the "Safe Boot" option in the Boot tab of msconfig?
