I finally had it with my old Compaq presario laptop and got a new compaq W17q. Problem is that i loved my windows 98 and word on my old computer and now I have windows vista and no word. How do I get my programs off my old computer to my new computer when I don't have the cd to install it? thanks, Mar4

You cannot transfer programs and will need a CD to install Word.
You can use the free Open Office suite available here: http://www.openoffice.org

Unfortunately that is not possible with that type of program. There are too many fies dropped in other locations as well as registry keys that are added or changed.
Your best bet would be to try and get a Student/Teacher version. It is quite a bit cheaper than the standard edition.
If you don't want to do that, you can try what is called Open Office. It is a free word processor program, compatible with Word and Wordperfect..
