running a lamer cpu at stock might allow some overclocking of ram since the cpu bottlenecks performance enough to keep the ram from crashing
the amd64 cpu's with onboard memory controller's are exactly the opposite, cruddy memory has trouble running at stock settings
usually only deluxe versions of premium brand motherboards offer the appropriate settings in bios to increase ram voltage and adjust all the memory timings and system/memory bus speeds
bottom line, forget overclocking memory, it does burn it up
