Oh boy, oh boy...



My Desktop Search Beta has provided me with some glitchs.
Mostly in that boot sequence is extended a few seconds as it loads from start (optionally).
Occasionally I've found it doesn't exit properly at shutdown, if I do
that with 9-10 programs minimized to the tray.
It also fills the HJT log with new entries.

Despite the glitchs, I like the program.
I use it every other day or so.
Presently about 15,000 files on my HD are
presented as search results.
Both when I do a google search and/or just search my own PC.

Installation of Thunderbird email client provided no
search results from it, to my disappointment.

Looks like this release version will address that,
and certainly has offered even more of what
I've come to expect from Google ...
solid, valuable free products.

Go Google!!

Yummy, I am downloading and I found the extra plug-ins, too.

Edit:
one hour later, with no plug-ins installed,
after uninstalling the Beta that was on my PC for a few months,
and simply running the initial indexing part of it
(which normally takes hours, and occurs during idle times)
progress is listed as 17%.
10,000 + items.
This ought to be good.
Thunderbird, which must be running to have
searched for results to turn up, has contributed 15 items so far.

Oh boy, oh boy.

This application deserves a second post, IMHO.

Seven hours later:

• Emails = 1,971
  
• Web History = 180
  
• Chats = 0
  
• Files = 36,992
  
• TOTAL = 39,140

I'm impressed.
I haven't even added any plug-ins to find more.
Whew, that's breath-taking.
No compromise in system performance while it did that (and is still doing it).

Now that it is out of Beta, it should not have glitches. And note the expanded items it searches:
Netscape, Thunderbird, Firefox, Mozilla,PDFs, music, video, and images!

Google has been one of the most innovative forces on the NET this past year, and all users owe it a lot of gratitude for forcing the issue of mailbox size and other innovations upon the other companies.
