While engaged in a friendly debate with my friend Bill (a Mac guy) over the true origins of the desktop metaphor in computers, we stumbled up this video in Google. It's a 1968 demonstration by Douglas Engelbart of Stanford. He's demonstrating the basic concepts of the modern GUI and desktop. It's really quite amazing to think that these concepts have been around for 40 years now.

Needless to say, both Bill and I are now suitably humbled.
