Go to Device Manager and expand all the +'s. Look for any devices that have a yellow exclamation point by them. What is the make and model of the computer?

You should try to run a diagnostic test from the manufacturer of your hard disk.

See HERE for support with this suggestion.

I think I'd download/run a manufacturer's diagnostic on that drive.

I'd also run chkdsk before I downloaded the HD manufacturer's diagnostic, XP Chkdsk, Using the Graphical Version (My Computer) - http://www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-chkdsk.html

You can find them under in the Event Viewer, in the Application logs. Look for the Winlogon listings.

Yes, Go into your control panel and into the system properties, under the advanced tab click on Start up and recovery Un-check the box next to automatically restart under the system failure section.

Edit: Write down the BSOD error code and post it here

Hmm...I just had that same error 2 nights ago and various STOP errors afterwards (on system I use primarily for video capture/editing).

I gave up trying to troubleshoot the issues (AV driver, network card, various blue screens upon booting) and did a clean install last night. Just trying to point out that this error is very hard to troubleshoot...especially so because (IMO) more issues are likely to develop as you try to troubleshoot, corruption occurs, etc.

When it first started, it looked like a plain memory issue (I had just installed a new stick) but it had nothing to do with the memory (memory works fine now).

Good luck!

Louis

Ok people thankyou all for the help so far,
So to date I have run adaware avg and defragged.
I have done chkdsk, and run a diagnostic tool for both myHDDs.
I have taken out both ny HDds too and reinstalled them..
and clutching at starws I did sys restore..
All to no avail..

Maybe I have a virus that I dunno about?
thanks again
Alex

If the only time this happens...is video-related...I think I would pull the video drivers...reboot and reinstall same...and see if there is a difference.

If not, I would repeat but install the latest drivers for video next time.

What programs are you using for video? These have drivers too (which can become corrupt).

that makes sense to me too. I'll give that a go.
Am using windows media player , nero and media player classic.
Sometimes movies play through media player classic.
Only thing is tho is that it reboots when I play a game.

Let's try the hardware drivers for now...we can move to software updates later.
