Version of linux will be debatable. Fedora is the old redhat and may be good as a first linux test. TO answer youre question about it acting as a server, the answer is yes. You will need to configure samba.

Tiny Sofa is the simplest server OS to install...15 minutes to a running server.
http://tinysofa.org Based on Trustix (which was built from SELinux) it is one of the most secure Linux server OS's right out of the box...good luck. -------------------- |
