I have 512 MB DDR SDRAM installed on my computer with a maximum upgrade of 2GB; however, I have a few questions about adding RAM.

1) I currently have one card of memory (512MB). Does my new card need the same amount of memory (512MB) or can I simply add a 1GB card?

2) How do I know how many pins I need? How do I know I am getting the one that fits by computer? Is there a standard number?

3) How do I know if I need DDR or DDR2? How do I know what is already installed?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome to the forum

What make/model is this system?
If custom make, what motherboard is in it?
In the beginning there was the command line.

You can also go here:

http://www.crucial.com

Let them scan your system and they will tell you exactly what you need. They need to install an activeX component, but it's safe.

You can either buy the memory there or go to New Egg or Tiger Direct or whomever.

Good luck.
