Ok. I have mine set at 800 x 600. I guess that is what it was set at when I got my computer. What is the difference? If you change it what does it do? What about programs running with the 800 x 600. Don't some things have to be set here. I am thinking of WinDVD, which I can't get to work anyway. Whole different topic I guess.

1024 X 768 gives me more bang for my buck, I guess.

sherrymyra, 800 X 600 is needed for some games,
some specialty situations like running benchmark applications also require it.
I recall the benchmark program needed it
to accurately determine my PC capabilities
in relationship with others in a similar circumstance ...
(at that time, those without video cards installed, I if remember correctly).

Icons appear larger in 800 X 600.
Start Menu occupies a larger percentage of the total screen area.
Large windows display without having to use scroll bars in 1024 X 768.

I can't say much about the higher screen resolutions.
I use a 17" monitor, so the practicality of the higher end ones
in my case is limited.
They require slightly more system resource(s) to use,
and a "better" monitor to capitalize on the benefits, I believe.

Right-clicking anywhere on the desktop in windows XP,
(probably the others, also) will give you the DISPLAY PROPERTIES dialog box.
A slider bar can generally be moved from 800 X 600 to 1024 X 768 and
result in the change.

A reboot might be required.
OK the decision, also.

In some circumstances, I've experienced an inability to do the change.
Or the change doesn't "stick".

If you experience difficulties, post again with the details.
Changes made can be reversed at will, so you will be able to
go back to one from the other easily if you are (and you should be) able to effect changes.

Good topic CGM3  I was 800 X 600 for years, but switched to 1024 X 768 to more often view entire pages without those annoying scroll bars. I also like the smaller (less intrusive) tool bars and icons. It took me awhile to get used to it but easy enough to switch back if you don't like it.

I switched to the 1024x768 because my icons were monsterous! You would have to sit 3 feet away or have eye strain.
Thats my case.

I use 1024x768, I hate 800x600, it drives me nuts! 800x600 resolution for desktops is just crazy, I like to use many programs at once, and 800x600 is too hard to do that with. So I stick with 1024x768.

I use 1024 X 768 too. I also like my coffee black, my whiskey straight and my women wild

twinsdad I hear you about the scroll bars and wanting to see the screen. I have my IE toolbars pushed right up also so I get lots of screen area. With the toolbars or menu bars or whatever they are called kept like that I still can get to all the things I use regularily.
