In my Add/Remove programs list I have the following programs.

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1

While checking through my weekly downloads info email from MSN I saw that there was a newer version, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 available. It mentioned what it called a Redistributable Package. My understanding on reading the info was that it would replace all the previous ones. Is this correct?. Do I uninstall all the versions listed above and only have the version 3.5 Redistributable on my PC or do I just simply leave the previous versions alone and add it to the list?.

Many thanks for any help/advice given.

Hello,

Your Add/Remove list is ok those entries should be there. I believe that a redistributable package is one that can just be distributed again and again. I read the download details for the 3.5 edition and it mentions a key phrase

Quote

.NET Framework 3.5 builds incrementally on the new features added in .NET Framework 3.0.
can be found here I would advise you to leave the other entries of .net framework alone.
Regards,

Alan.

OTOH...I removed all previous versions when I installed 3.0 (I only needed it to get drivers for my ATI card and uninstalled it after that).

A redistributable version is just a "make easy" version for IT personnel, facilitating installation of the various systems they may have responsibility for, IMO.

In any case, I have had multiple versions on at one time and it won't do the system any harm that I recognized.
