I am using a HP Pavilion dv9000 w/ Vista Home Premium. This laptop at first would download the updates, but would fail every time I tried to install them. I tried manually installing each and every one singularily (there was 27 updates) not one would install. So I followed the Windows Help instructions...To stop windows update, delete temporary update files, and then to start windows update. Now the message im getting is to "Install windows update software" and adds "to check for updates I must first install an update for Windows Update" So i click install now...wait for it to download and install, and in a few moments, a message comes up saying "windows could not search for new updates". So I click TRY AGAIN...and the process repeats itself...I Also want to add that I am not using a firewall....and I am connected to the internet.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

How did you "stop" Windows Update?
How did you delete the temporary update files?
Did you flush the Software Distribution cache?
Are you getting any specific error messages (the exact wording of them is important)?

To stop Windows Update I went to Services > Windows Update > Right Clicked Stop
then C > Windows >SoftwareDist...> DataStore and deleted all files in Datastore
then C> Windows > SoftwareDist...> Downloads and deleted all that...
Then started Windows Update same way as I stopped it...except I clicked Start

The error im getting is to do exacltly what I did already...
Error 80070002

I just went through the process again...And the files I deleted are back for some reason...I deleted them again and the Windows Update came up and said to check for updates...
Then another message comes up saying "Install new Windows Update Software" with a ! sign. And under it it says "To check for updates, you must first install an update for Windows Update, Your automatic update update settings will not change". So I click INSTALL NOW once again..

Another Window comes up and says "Downloading and installing Updates", then disappears...

Now a messeage comes up saying "Windows Could Not search for new updates"

Error 800703F1

In my Update History
Windows Update software 7.0.6000.381

Installation date:13/01/2008 7:46 PM

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 800703F1

Update type: Important
