<While Terri happily watches her sitcom tv_happy.gif Dialer runs off to find a good explanation of EPS for her ... heheheheh>

Remember, Terri, Google is our friend!
Note: this article is on a page for the Linux OS, but the explanation of EPS is appropriate.

Sorry for intruding.. i know this topic went a bit off on the subject, but I need some type of help.

I've read and tried just about everything that's been mentioned on this post, but still no luck with fixing this problem..

My situation is, everytime i try to open a new file or even an existing one, nothing loads. I went searching for the preference file to reset it, but i couldnt even find the file, gone through searching the whole system and everything. I tryed opening through IE, still didnt work.

Most likely, I really need the File>New to work since I need to start working on creating a project.

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer!

Debideb

You tried disabling the version cue too?

If not, this is what worked for me...I couldn't (in photoshop cs3) go to FILE>OPEN and have the files load

They helped me here and this is what worked:

Go to EDIT>PREFERENCES>Filing Handling

if the Enable Version Cue box is checked, uncheck it

close Photoshop, restart it and then do FILE>NEW and see if this works.

I sure hope it does

Hi Terri and Helpers
As a long time Professional Engineer I have used all sorts of drawing and photo programs and one of the hardest most salutory lessons I learned was that anything with Adobe attached to it was buggy and unstable. I finally had to ditch my time investment in Adobe Premier and Photoshop and learn another suite of programs.
Having seen your artwork it is obvious that you have a great talent in that direction. I therefore strongly urge you to have a look at the Corel suite of programs. Corel Draw and Corel PhotoPaint would do the things you are doing at present and will easily output to a file type that your printer will love. But I can't help but think that with your talent Corel Painter would be a joy for you and allow you to fully explore your undoubted talent.
All of these programs are available for trial. Check out the Corel website for details of your computer's minimum requirements. This is probably a good thing to do for your existing photoshop stuff as I suspect that you may be running a little short on computing power and storage space.

Anyhow good luck for your future endeavours
Pete

I had the exact same problem as terrispeakz. When asking to open a file in Photoshop (and Illustrator), the window would flicker for a fraction of a second and then Photoshop would freeze, the only thing I could do was Ctrl+Alt+Del my way out of it. The only way I could open a file was to select it outside of Photoshop.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the programs : nothing.
I deleted the preference files as suggested on another forum : nothing.
I deleted all network printers, as it seems to be the answer in some cases : nothing.
Another suggestion that seems to work sometimes is to set PDF as default Printer : nothing.

I was about to shoot myself (or my screen).

Then I stumbled upon this :
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403268.html

The problem was that the Open Window was there, but outside the screen ! Here is what worked for me :
Use the keyboard to move the dialog back into view.
1. Choose File > Open or File > Save As. (Choose whichever dialog fails to appear on your screen.)
2. Remove your hand from your mouse or other pointing device.
3. Press and release the Alt key on your keyboard.
4. Press and release the Space bar.
5. Press and release the M key.
6. Use the Left or Right Arrow key to move the dialog box back into view on your monitor. Hold down the Left Arrow key for several seconds. If the Save As or Open dialog box does not appear, then hold down the Right Arrow key until the dialog appears.

Note: If you previously had other displays configured above or below your current display, you may need to use the Up or Down Arrow keys instead or the Left or Right Arrow keys.

7.Choose a file name and other options in the dialog, and then click Save or Open. Photoshop will remember the current window placement, and you can resume using your mouse or other pointing device.

I hope this can help!
